At The Window Welder we take into account your safety as a #1 priority. Most factors that qualify a windshield as safe and installed properly aren't taken into account by MANY glass installers, in fact only 7/10 windshields installed in the USA were marked as installed correctly on a survey conducted a few years back. We would like to think that things have changed since then, however you wouldn't like to just assume that they have. If you read the 20/20 report below you'll understand why. Below is a list of things that The Window Welder does to ensure the safety of all passengers in your vehicle, and why it's so important. Safety is VERY important to us, if you have any other questions please feel free to ask us at any time!
1. We wear disposable rubber gloves when handling a windshield. Oils and dirt from installers' hands can contaminate the bonding surface of the windshield, causing it to not adhere properly.
2. We properly prepare the pinch weld with a primer that causes the urethane (windshield glue) to adhere to the body of the vehicle, this is obvious; you don't want the window to fall out after it has been installed.
3. Cleaning the windshield with a two-part system of glass cleaner, 1st with GC800 that will show any contamination of the window and make us able to remove any factory surface defects, then with a common glass cleaner to ensure that all oils are off of the glass and wont cause any un-necessary grime on your window when you 1st drive away your vehicle (afterall, it is a new windshield and you would like to be able to see out of it) Last of all, we use clean paper towels so as to not contaminate the primer and cause it to adhere improperly.
4. Installer or Secretary will warn the customer of the safe drive away time on the vehicle, depending on the weather and type of glue used it takes some time to dry fully so that the windshield does not shift at any time.
5. We use urethane instead of butyl tape. Butyl tape is an inferior adhesive, only holding to 60lbs per square inch. Urethane, by contrast, holds to 600lbs per square inch.
PLEASE SAVE YOUR LIFE!
If you didn’t see the 20/20 report that aired on February 25, 2000 about windshield safety? Than you probably aren’t prepared to hear this shocking story, please sit down if you aren’t already.
Jeanne Fransway, whom was featured on 20/20 ran off a Wisconsin road late at night. When the police crews got to the wreck site, she was no where to be found, they did in fact find her body…. It was lying 70 feet from where her car had rested, she was on top of the windshield. If the windshield had been installed correctly, Jeanne could still be alive today! The statistics show that only 7/10 of windshields are installed correctly, if you don’t want to end up like Ms. Fansway, please use our shop to get your windshield replaced; quality is a guarantee that we stand behind! No one should end up in this situation because someone was too careless, we promise to do anything to save your life.
